Autism
Benjamin

Benjamin’s birth in November of 2001 was anything but smooth. Extremely cold at
birth,
he was initially diagnosed with very low blood sugar, was suffering from severe
jaundice,
and had a major problem in that the pulmonary valve of his heart was not closing
completely.
Unfortunately, the symptoms got worse. Benjamin developed major sensory issues -
whenever anyone touched him he reacted as though he had just touched a hot
stove.
His mother remembers that he spent much of his time holding his arms above his
head for
fear that anyone or anything would touch him. He would become very uncomfortable
and
move to self-stimulation (rocking) to avoid contact. Benjamin was also “blind as
a bat”,
and his parents were told by a noted neuropthomologist that the only way he
would be
able to see at all was with modern technology, such as placing a computer chip
in his
brain. He couldn’t talk, he was afraid to walk, and his overall prognosis looked
dim.
However his parents, Amanda and
Eric had heard about Dr. Richard Neubauer and his
successes at Ocean Hyperbarics and decided to see what HBOT (Hyperbaric Oxygen
Therapy) could do for Benjamin. Now after 112 “two – a –day” treatments,
Benjamin has almost been reborn. He is far more verbal, makes noises, and even
says a few words.
The boy who didn’t want to be touched now enjoys patty-cake and ring around the
rosy on a regular basis.
Benjamin can see and is responding to sunlight very well.
A cardiologist was amazed to see that a large hole in Benjamin’s heart had
almost completely closed up.
Amanda shared with us that one of the best of many new and happy memories was
about a month ago when she received her first hug and kiss. “My son could
finally show me that he loves me.
Every day I am seeing something new. I plan to continue hyperbaric treatments as
long as I continue to see improvements and I hope that Benjamin will be able to
lead a fully, functional life.”
