Near Drowning
Alyssa
While on vacation with her family,
11-month old Alyssa Simonson wandered away and tragically fell into a swimming
pool. The arriving paramedics worked on her for close to 30 minutes before she
took her first breath. Alyssa spent 2 weeks in intensive care and a total of 4
weeks in rehabilitation. The severe oxygen deprivation she suffered had taken
its toll.
When she finally returned to her home, her reflexes were greatly diminished and
she was G-tube dependent. She could barely hold her head up. Months went by with
little progress. Her parents heard about Ocean Hyperbaric and after consulting
with Dr. Richard Neubauer, decided to give it a try. The results have been
nothing short of amazing!
After about 130 treatments, Alyssa now smiles frequently. She responds to sounds
and is walking with assistance without crossing her legs. Alyssa has good motor
functions and the use for her fingers and toes has improved from level 1 to
level 4. She can swallow food and no longer needs the G-tube. Her prognosis for
the future is extremely good.
Says mom Laura, "My daughter is now using her muscles well and the treatments
have really helped her feeding. Alyssa can now say six words, one of which is
mommy. She doesn't say it that clearly, but I can sure understand it! Although
we are from Minnesota, we are planning on continuing treatment until at least
200 treatments since Alyssa is making such great progress."
Kimberly

On January
5th, 2004, a parent’s and grandparent’s worst nightmare became a reality.
18 month old Kimberly fell into the family pool. Somehow she had managed to get
the sliding glass door open that leads to the pool area. I found her floating
face-up in the deep end of the pool. I jumped in and pulled her out,
began CPR
and called 911. Kimmie was flown to All Children’s Hospital where we were told
she would not survive.
Then when she did survive we were told she would be a “vegetable” forever.
Fortunately God had other plans for her.
After 45 days in the hospital with a Trach and G-tube placed she was discharged.
During her
stay in the hospital we did not lose hope while searching for alternative
treatment for our little girl.
On the Internet we came across a web site for Dr. Richard Neubauer and the Ocean Hyperbaric Neurologic Center which gave us much encouragement. I called for information and the staff was more than willing to help.
They worked
so hard to get Kimmie transferred from St. Petersburg, FL to Fort Lauderdale. When she was finally released we immediately came to Lauderdale by the Sea, FL
and were greeted with open arms by the
entire staff. Kimmie was extremely rigid, not able to move her body or eyes.
After the first treatment she moved her wrists, hands, arms and her eyes began
to move so she could
look around the room. With each treatment she receives she has great
improvement.
August 27th, 2004 she had her Trach removed and passed her swallow study.
She now has a voice and her appetite back (although still has a G-tube for now).
She smiles, leans to give kisses, cries and reaches for things. She has brought the entire community and family together, she is a true blessing. She has had 49 treatments to date and has gone from a vegetative state to a functioning little girl.
We thank Dr. Neubauer and his staff from the bottom of our hearts.
